The landscape of modern and contemporary art in India is framed within the myriad experiences artists have in relation to the world surrounding them. In India, much of what is being made is disseminated, articulated, perceived, and criticized in the context of South Asia's vast and dynamic history. The following links give a brief archeology of what artistic history lies underneath surface of contemporary Indian art.
THE AIM OF THIS SITE IS TO GIVE A CURSORY IMAGE OF CONTEMPORARY ART IN INDIA. THIS INCLUDES DISCUSSION OF PREVIOUS EXPERIENCES IN SOUTH ASIAN HISTORY AS WELL AS A SELECTED DISCUSSION OF A FEW OF THE MANY THEMES BEING EXPRESSED IN CONTEMPORARY INDIAN ART. ENJOY!
